Frequently Asked Questions
Good Neighbor is an eco-friendly LP record manufacturing company on a mission to help the music industry take critical steps towards a cleaner supply chain and sustainable future. The first of its kind, our patented product is an alternative to vinyl records and is made of a non-toxic and fully recyclable material, produced using an injection molding process instead of the hydraulic press. All the quality and feel of vinyl records without the carbon footprint. That’s Good Neighbor.
Good Neighbor’s mission is to be a catalyst for change in the music industry. Our journey begins with our flagship product, the Good Neighbor 12-inch record. We use a patented process to manufacture eco-conscious records that transcend industry standards and exemplify our dedication to a brighter, greener future.
We love music, we love records, and we want to keep making and listening to them without feeling like we’re having a negative effect on the world we live in. We wanted to see if we could contribute in a way that left things better than how we found them.
Each year, approximately 125 million kilograms of CO2 is pumped into the air from vinyl production alone. Additionally, 44 million kilograms of PVC is used just to make vinyl. It’s not great! Again, we love records and always will, but the process has to be challenged. Good Neighbor harnesses the first major innovation in record manufacturing in almost 50 years.
There is, and we’re doing it. We landed on a process that captures the magic of vinyl without the use of PVC and with a significantly reduced CO2 output and electricity usage. The packaging also represents a unique space for change, there is far too much waste and single use plastic for us to manage as a planet, Good Neighbor is developing solutions for this as well (watch this space!)
In multiple side-by-side comparisons between Good Neighbor’s records and other high quality 180 gram vinyl records, no one could hear a difference. The frequency response is nearly identical. We have absolutely no desire to make records that don’t sound good. We’re a company made up of artists, with the goal of serving the needs of artists.
Shorter than you think! We can produce more records per day, per machine than any major vinyl pressing plant. Reach out to us if you want to hear more—we’re ready to produce on time and on budget.
You’d think it would be, but it’s actually competitive, and in many cases, cheaper than producing records using the current methods.
